This is it. Drastic measures had to be taken.
You guys, I’m going into self-imposed exile.
An extrovert like myself doesn’t do well in the countryside. I actively try to avoid this kind of situation.
However, I’ve been traveling full-time for the past four months, and I’ve done sorely little work in that time. And the thing is, I have big plans for 2016 — ones that will leave me far less time to blog come January, should all go well.
Which means, it’s time to hole up like a bear in early hibernation and get my ass in gear.
This month, I’m in the Irish countryside. Meaning no friends to see, no hot new bars or restaurants to check out, no distractions of any kind.
I’m forcing myself to sit down and be responsible. This month, I’mma be a writing machine.
Why Ireland?
A number of reasons, including the obvious one that I’m obsessed with the country, so duh, why not?
But I also found this ridiculous house in County Cork for an even more ridiculous price, and it was too perfect to turn down.
Check it out:
We have three bedrooms,
Two fireplaces,
One jacuzzi in a gorgeously tiled bathroom,
A giant wrap-around wooden balcony with a view of the Atlantic,
And this adorable “technically wild but allowed in the house when it wants” cat just starving for attention.
(As I write this, the cat has entered the house and I’m freaking out. KITTY! KITTEHHHH)
And all for less than what we’d pay for a studio in Paris!
This house is so huge, it’s like a maze. It’s insane. It’s gorgeous.
It’s going to be a good month.
How do you get into a writing groove?

October 3, 2015 at 23:36You couldn’t have picked a more tranquil and beautiful place to shut yourself away. :) I’d probably go stir-crazy being away from a big city for too long (says the girl currently living in the countryside :P ) but this really is a great opportunity for you to get done what needs to be done.
Very curious about what’s happening in January now though

October 5, 2015 at 23:55Wow looks like a lovely retreat from the travel. You should make sure to take a trip to the Beara peninsula in West Cork for some beautiful sights. Dursey island has the only cable car in Ireland and it is the only cable car that traverses open seawater in all of Europe. There are beautiful cafés all over the Peninsula. A trip to MacCarthys Bar in Castletownbere to hear the amazing story of Dr. Aidan MacCarthy is also worthwhile! Enjoy your time in my home county.

October 17, 2015 at 22:50Oh my god Edna, this place looks freaking amazing!!! Super jealous right now. That sounds like a great plan. I always find my best ideas happen when I’m moving, so to get in the writing mood I take lots of walks. I still do face a struggle with laziness though, as many times when I get back I’m tuckered from the walk and end up reading or watching Hulu instead of writing!
