For as much as people talk about this trail, ‘Sydney Coastal Walk’ seems to be a bit of a misnomer. Located in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, the walk actually runs from Bondi to Coogee — but understandably then the full name of the walk can get to be a mouthful.
Likewise, to say we ‘boogied’ down to Coogee wouldn’t be quite accurate: it took about two hours to walk the full six kilometers. Yet as any fun-loving journalist will tell you, it’s hard to pass on a headline that rhymes with boogie.
People enjoy the Coastal Walk for various reasons, from the quiet beaches and picnic areas, to family-friendly parks and pools. As someone who doesn’t like the beach or children, to that I say, meh. Not my cup of tea.
I loved the Coastal Walk for the nature: walking this trail was the first time I truly recognized the vastness of the Pacific Ocean. There’s something so entrancing about gazing out at the horizon and seeing nothing but waves and water; to wonder what’s underneath, what’s on the other side?
Everything else along the way — the unique Australian flora, relaxed hippie vibe, and gorgeously eroded cliffs — was just a bonus.
Have you boogied from Bondi to Coogee? Where’s your favorite beachside walk?

April 29, 2015 at 17:46The pictures are great. Although the close up of that plant right above the people lying on the grass by the ocean was trippy. On my reader there was no space between them and I thought there was a huge plant coming out of the ocean. I was like “What! What! What!”

May 15, 2015 at 10:41Gorgeous. I imagine if you could time this so that you could end in Coogee as the sun was setting, that would also be pretty amazing to see.
