I love dim sum. Give me a basket of har gau any time and I’m a happy panda.
Like everything else in Singapore, good dim sum usually does not come cheap. But recently, I found Crystal Jade Dining In. Part of the Crystal Jade culinary group, it is one of their many restaurants known throughout Asia for ‘high-quality fine dining’ — and by that I mean a place I would rarely, if ever, visit (on my own dime, anyway).
However, Crystal Jade offers a surprisingly affordable dim sum brunch, with most dishes ranging between S$3.30 and S$4.80 (USD $2.6-3.7).
Their menu includes your typical staples of dim sum – dumplings, buns, porridge, and lots of fried roll-shaped goodness – as well as additions like shark fin’s dumplings (not that I condone shark’s fin!) and chilled black glutinous rice with yam and shredded coconut (I don’t know if that’s actually a dim sum staple – it certainly isn’t at my local).
The accompanying jasmine tea is also full and hearty — the good stuff that makes your brunch worth the trip to VivoCity.
It wasn’t just the food that made Crystal Jade. Simplistic Imperial-style décor, plush seating, and wall-to-wall views out on the water and to Sentosa Island, all contributed to making dim sum brunch at Crystal Jade a fantastic way to start a Sunday.
